Taç HEPP is a diversion type hydropower project located over the Yapağı Creek within the borders of Erzurum province. The project site is located at high elevations of Erzurum enabling the usage of a high head as 450 m between 2300 and 1850 m elevations.
Taç HEPP is located between 2300 m and 1850 m elevations of Yapağı Creek. Due to its location at such high elevations and the hard climate, the construction and operation of the project have encountered some difficulties.
The project is composed of a tyrolean type diversion weir, 3.6 km long GRP pipeline, a forebay, 2 km long penstock and a powerhouse.
The penstock of the project is designed to be constructed with GRP pipes. However, since GRP pipes are manufactured up to a limit pressure, the last 1.1 km of the penstock is designed as a steel pipe. The penstock is connected to two Pelton turbines inside the powerhouse.
