Summary

Saran HES Project is a diversion type hydroelectric power station which is to be built on Göksu Creek and it is in the borders of Mut district of Mersin Province. Project is planned to make use of the potential of Göksu Creek between the altitudes of 150.50m and 123.00m.

Göksu Creek is a stream with relatively high currents. Thus, project facilities are planned to use these high capacities at the most optimum rate. The currents that are converted by a regulator structure are transmitted to the head pond through 9.5 km long transmission line. 8.6 km of this line will be built as a trapezoid canal whereas the other 900 m will be a closed conduit. The currents that are gathered in the head pond, will be transmitted to the turbines in the powerhouse through three different penstocks due to the project’s high capacities. By this way, there will be no need for an extra branch line.

At the point where the powerhouse will be built, river bed altitudes is around 128 m. Thus, river surveillance excavation will be conducted along approximately 4 km in order to reduce the tail water level of the powerhouse to the elevation of 123 m.
