Karabat HES Project is designed to make use of the energy potential of Alabalik Creek between the altitudes of 2530 m and 2229 m.
Regulator locale of Karabat HES project is suitable for storage. Therefore, studies have been conducted in order to compare the project’s alternatives with and without a storage. As a result, the alternative that includes a storage has been found to be more profitable.
In the Karabat HES project, regulator shaft is selected as the storage location. In the shaft, there is enough capacity to store more than Karabat HES Project’s daily need. Karabat HES, with the help of daily regulation, will produce energy at the peak period, and the same time, will store the flood discarge that comes from the source in its reservoir and use it afterwards in energy production.
The currents that are directed to the intake structure by the dam, will be transmitted to the head pond through 5km long and 1.60m in diameter U-PVC pipe line. The current that is generated in the head pond will be conveyed to the turbines inside the powerhouse via penstock. The penstock is in total 2880 m long and in order to maintain the cost at a reasonable level, the 2640 m long part where the pressure is favorable is designed as a GRP pipe.
