Summary

Elmalı HEPP is a diversion type hydropower project located in the Eastern Anatolia Region within the border of Erzurum province over the Serçeme Creek. Elmalı HEPP makes use of the head between 1988 m and 1905 m.

The project is located downstream of Kuzgun Dam & HEPP with a seasonal storage capacity. The long free flow conveyance channel in the original design was replaced by a pressurized GRP pipeline near riverbed in order to reduce construction costs, expropriation and to shorten construction duration. Although the optimum design discharge of Elmalı HEPP (16.5 m³/s) was determined to be less than design discharge of Kuzgun HEPP (23 m³/s), the excess water released by Kuzgun HEPP during peak hours was effectively stored in the Elmalı Weir reservoir thus resulting in an economically more feasible project.
