Summary

Ova HPP is a run-of-the river type hydroelectric facility which is under construction over the Sakarya River. With the project, the high flow potantial of Sakarya River will be used and the commercial operation of plant will begin in 2019.

There are very fertile lands of Pamukova at the both coasts of upstream of the project under the operation level of Ova Weir. Impervious protection dykes will be located at both coasts with a total length of 4 km in order to protect these lands. Also an economic and practical method; CFA pile (Continuous Flight Auger pile) method will be used to prevent the seepage under the dykes. Ova Weir is a controlled diversion structure keeping the maximum water level equal to the operational water level by using radial gates. The spillway is designed for 1160.00 m3 /s flood discharge. During the floods, the 4 pieces 6.60 x 9.80 m radial gates with flaps will be used. The gates will be also used as flushing gates. There is a pool type fish passage at the left of the spillway and a fill dam at the left of fish passage. Ova HPP water intake sill is designed as a quarter circle in order to minimize the head losses and prevent the entering of bed material to the turbines. Ova HPP will be constructed at the right coast of Sakarya River and contains 3 identical Pit turbines. The plant is expected to generate 55.45 GWh energy annually with 13.50 MW installed capacity. To maintain the 65.50 m tailwater level, an excavation of 200 000 m3 with 1 455 m length and 40 m bottom width will be done at the downstream.
